Kate Hudson dribbles back as Isla Gorden, in the second season of Running Point. This time, she has fully stepped into her role as the president of The Waves, while continuing to navigate the chaos of her larger-than-life family of five. That includes older brother Cam Gordon (Justin Theroux), still in recovery and quietly scheming for a return to the top seat.
Season two picks up right where the first left off, with Isla balancing misogyny in a male-dominated sports world, ongoing sibling tensions, blended family complications, and the arrival of both new and familiar romantic interests.
Chris Critiques
Running Point succeeds in maintaining the momentum of its first season while keeping the tone light and bingeable. The series peppers in timely pop-culture references, from Dune and Euphoria to Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter which help the world feel current and playful.
The comedy continues to work best when paired with the show’s workplace feminist themes, particularly Isla’s efforts to lead in the male-dominated world of professional basketball. Even when the humor leans broad through the Gorden’s outrageous commentary, the series understands how to keep its breezy and irreverent spirit intact.
The season’s standout dynamic remains the chemistry between Kate Hudson and Brenda Song. Their contrast of California cool meets sharp Chicago edge creates some of the show’s most entertaining moments. Their friendship feels genuine, lived-in, and often more compelling than the surrounding storylines. Where the season stumbles is with many of its supporting players, who often feel thinly drawn and stuck on a single note, making it harder to invest in their individual arcs.
Running Point remains a safe and enjoyable watch for what it is: an easy binge filled with basketball glamour, family dysfunction, and sideline drama.
