Spanish spiritual sagas, a severely traumatized solider, and a sinister sea. Three shows. One question: which should you skip or stream?
The House of the Spirits
Premiere Date: April 29, 2026
Where to Watch: Prime Vide0
The House of the Spirits, the first Spanish-language adaptation of Isabel Allende’s beloved novel, brings new life to the literary classic through a richly spiritual lens. The story begins in the present day, with a granddaughter narrating the events that unfolded generations earlier. At its center is Clara del Valle, a young girl gifted with psychic abilities whose otherworldly powers become intertwined with family destiny, political unrest, and the military coup in Chile.
The series is deeply invested in themes of spiritual awakening, ancestral memory, and the inescapable weight of family legacy. Ghosts, recollections, and inherited pain linger throughout, as the granddaughter reflects on the need to “rediscover the past to survive my own horror.” It also offers a pointed examination of patriarchy and the limitations imposed upon women—forced to “work like men but not be able to vote like them.”
Chris’ Call: STREAM IT. The House of the Spirits is a deliberate, slow-burning spiritual odyssey that takes its time drawing viewers into Isabel Allende’s enduring tale.

Chris’ Call: STREAM IT. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II proves a commanding lead, delivering a grounded and convincing performance as a deeply traumatized soldier struggling to reclaim purpose. Billie Boullet is equally sharp as Poe Rayburn, matching his intensity as a grieving daughter driven by fury and loss. The supporting cast, including Bobby Cannavale and Alice Braga, brings a familiar and dependable presence to the thriller framework. Man on Fire simmers with tension until the fire finally ignites.
Widow’s Bay
Premiere Date: April 29, 2026
Where to Watch: Appletv+
Tom Hoftus, mayor of Widow’s Bay, has one clear ambition: revive the struggling seaside town and transform it into the “next best Martha’s Vineyard.” Yet his civic aspirations are undercut by a striking lack of empathy and emotional connection, as one resident pointedly tells him, “You refuse to accept our history to accept the truth.”
The town’s origins trace back to forty-three mainland passengers who arrived by sea in search of a place to call their own, “an untamed island, blank canvas,” on which they built a new settlement from scratch. The island is haunted, cursed, and very much alive.
As the story unfolds, the land itself begins to awaken. The first sign is an earthquake: phase one of a terrifying cycle that signals “she’s waking up.” Soon, unnatural fog rolls ashore, followed by horrors ranging from undead sailors to generations of buried violence. Widow’s Bay is no ordinary town; its history is littered with grotesque urban legends and a dense offshore mist said to steal souls. Most chilling of all: those born on the island can never truly leave. Anyone who tries is doomed to die.
Chris’ Call: STREAM IT. Widow’s Bay is an entertaining cocktail of genres, blending horror, mystery, and comedy into something that feels tailor-made for adults who grew up on Goosebumps and Tales from the Crypt. The picturesque charm is on the surface cozy and intimate, yet beneath it lies a quiet diseased darkness. Strong performances and a richly sinister atmosphere help keep the series afloat, channeling the cursed spirit of a sea that haunts its people and slowly rises to drag them back into its depths.
